Honey Bread Rolls

Deliciously tender rolls glazed with honey butter. Great as an accompaniment to breakfast and dinner. Tastes just like a baked glazed donut.

Ingredients for rolls

450g unbleached all-purpose flour

50g white sugar

1 ½ tsp sea salt

1 tsp instant yeast

50g canola oil

25g melted butter (salted or unsalted)

250g water

Ingredients for honey glaze

25g honey (salted or unsalted)

25g butter


  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients. Add the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

  2. Let the dough rest 10 minutes. Fold the dough (instructions on how to fold dough here). Repeat the process of resting 10 minutes and folding three more times.

  3. Cover the dough and let rest on the counter 1-3 hours, until doubled in size.

  4. Empty the dough onto a floured counter surface and divide the dough into 2oz portions. Form the dough into balls and arrange on a sheet tray sprayed with nonstick spray and lined with parchment paper. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise 30-60 minutes or until very fluffy and noticeably risen.

  5. Preheat the oven to 400*F when the rolls are almost fully risen.

  6. To make the glaze: combine the butter and honey in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave 30-60 seconds, until the butter is melted. Stir together.

  7. Before putting the rolls in the oven, glaze with the honey butter using a pastry brush.

  8. Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown (see picture).

  9. Immediately after the rolls come out of the oven, brush again with honey butter. Let cool at least 30 minutes before enjoying.

Makes about 12 2 ounce rolls.
