Warm fall spices and maple syrup with fresh apples and hearty steel cut oats. It's like apple pie for breakfast. Cooked in an electric pressure cooker.
1 cup steel cut oats (not instant)
2 1/2 cups water or milk
2 apples, cut into large cubes
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
Walnuts, maple syrup, sliced apples for garnish
Place all ingredients except garnish into an electric pressure cooker. I use the Instantpot Duo 6 quart.
Cook at pressure cook 'high' for four minutes. Let naturally depressurize 10 minutes before releasing pressure and opening the lid.
Serve in a bowl and garnish with walnuts, maple syrup and fresh sliced apples as desired. Steel cut oats keep in the fridge and reheat very well: add a couple tablespoons of milk or water before reheating.
