Apple Spice Steel Cut Oats

Warm fall spices and maple syrup with fresh apples and hearty steel cut oats. It's like apple pie for breakfast. Cooked in an electric pressure cooker.

1 cup steel cut oats (not instant)

2 1/2 cups water or milk

2 apples, cut into large cubes

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon salt

Walnuts, maple syrup, sliced apples for garnish

  1. Place all ingredients except garnish into an electric pressure cooker. I use the Instantpot Duo 6 quart.

  2. Cook at pressure cook 'high' for four minutes. Let naturally depressurize 10 minutes before releasing pressure and opening the lid.

  3. Serve in a bowl and garnish with walnuts, maple syrup and fresh sliced apples as desired. Steel cut oats keep in the fridge and reheat very well: add a couple tablespoons of milk or water before reheating.

Serves 2-3.
